Shared Android Direct Download guide
Installation Instructions
Android requires explicit approval before a browser or file manager can install an application downloaded outside an app store. Approval applies to the specific source used to open the APK.
Device wording variesMenu names and prompts vary by Android version, device manufacturer, browser, and file manager. Look for wording such as Install unknown apps or Allow from this source.
Install an APK
- Open the TinkerCobble product page and select its Stable Direct Download.
- Allow the browser to download the APK if Android displays a download warning.
- Open the completed download from the browser's downloads list or the device's Files application.
- If Android blocks the installation, open the offered Settings page for the current browser or file manager.
- Enable the setting that allows that source to install unknown applications.
- Return to the installation prompt and select Install.
- After installation, the per-source setting may be turned off again in Android Settings.
Install an update
Download the newer Stable APK and open it in the same way. Android recognizes a compatible update only when its package name and release-signing identity match the installed application.
Direct Downloads do not check for or install updates automatically. Export important data before updating and review the product's release page for the current version and known issues.
Security checks
- Download only from a product page on
https://tinkercobble.com. - Compare the published SHA-256 digest when independent file verification is required.
- Do not install a file labeled DEV as a normal Stable release.
- Do not disable broader Android security protections to complete the installation.
